Youth Leadership Camp 2018

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jared Herman. I am currently a junior at California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR). I was born and raised in the state of Florida up until before I became eight. My family and I moved to California to start a new life after my brother, Brady Herman was born. As my brother was born profoundly deaf, my parents wanted to put my brother and I in a deaf school. Therefore, we moved to California because my family felt that California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR) was the best school that could give me a good education and a great new life. I’ve been a student at CSDR for eight years, almost nine. I started at CSDR when I was in fourth grade in 2010, and throughout my time at CSDR, I’ve come a long, long way to get to where I am now. In my years at CSDR, I’ve accomplished many things and learned a lot of things through my accomplishments, challenges, and struggles. As a current junior I’m the Associated Student Body Government (ASBG) President of High School at CSDR, I’m a representative in our Jr. NAD Charter, I’m involved with different activities like our blood drive event and our Deaf Deaf World event where over 500 hearing ASL students come together for a night of signing. I’m involved in so much more especially now that I have been chosen to attend YLC.

Youth Leadership Camp is a prestigious leadership camp where deaf students from all over the country gather at Stayton, Oregon for a month long of leadership, empowerment, and unity. YLC is a rich experience that anyone could experience and I’m one of those students who got chosen to experience YLC. I have had a lot of doubts about this camp and then I decided to apply for the camp, because I was curious if I would get in. During the waiting game after applying to YLC, I heard so many positive reviews about this camp and once I got the letter that I got accepted, I was like, “I’m doing this. I’m going for it and I’m going to earn the money to go”. This camp is something that I really want to experience for myself and for my life. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to go as a camper for one long month. I may be a leader, yes, but imagine how much more of a leader I could be by going to this camp? I could be a leader on top of a leader on TOP of a leader!

There are three portions of money required for the camp itself. The camp itself is $2,600 and that’s most definitely not cheap.

The first portion is due by March 31, 2018: $1,000

The second portion is due by April 21, 2018: $775

The third and final portion is due by June 16, 2018: $775

With this money raised, it would go towards my YLC funds that would help me with ground transportation, a YLC t-shirt, a YLC group photograph, and miscellaneous things that go towards my YLC fund. This YLC fund can be raised by me, but it can’t be raised unless you help me out. I am asking for any help at all, you guys can donate any amount of money. It can even be $1 or $100 dollars. That’s all I am asking for.

Again, I would love to go to this prestigious leadership camp and the only way to do that is to gain each and everyone’s support that I would love to have. Please, please, PLEASE share this with anyone and everyone you know!

Thank you!
