Our Atlas STORY:
Atlas Media & Design was started by a transnational group of Uyghur students and professionals with a mission to empower young Uyghur refugees in Istanbul to realize their vision for a better future for themselves and their community. Last year we launched an initiative to equip Uyghur refugee youth with the skills and resources to build their capacity in creative media and design so they could become self-reliant people who contribute to the sustainable development of their community and cause.

Our pilot creative media and design training program launched in November 2020 with a cohort of 10 promising Uyghur youth. After fundraising several months in partnership with Shukr Foundation , we raised almost $10K on LaunchGood and received additional support from Shukr to pay for instruction and equipment. Thanks to amazing people like you, our students are about to complete the first phase of their training at a distinguished media academy in Istanbul and will move to Atlas Media & Design's own space soon to complete the next phase of their training.

With the fund we raised last year, we've paid for our students' training in graphic design and post-production at a distinguished media academy in Istanbul. We've also secured a space that we've equipped with four new and two refurbished design compatible Dell laptops, two Canon cameras, and one Sony camera as well as additional classroom equipment. The remainder of our funds raise last year will cover instruction fees for seminars, skills workshops and other related instruction costs. This year, with your support, we can complete our learning lab with the purchase of three-four additional laptops or desktops as well as other equipment that will be used for the pilot program and future Atlas programs.
Why SUPPORT ATLAS:
Your donations will help support Uyghur refugee youth in Istanbul by providing them opportunities to build their capacity, secure sustainable careers, and serve their communities. As you may know, the genocide in their homeland has left many Uyghur youth in the diaspora extremely vulnerable, cut off from the support of their families, and struggling academically, financially, socially, and mentally. This initiative will give some of those youth a competitive edge to sustainable careers through creative media and design training, apprenticeship, work placements, and a platform to make positive contributions to their community.
