Peaceful Learning: Supporting Education in Conflict Areas

I am Ayman Aldahdooh, the CEO of the British International School in Gaza. Our school has been a beacon of hope and education in one of the most conflict-ridden areas of the world. 

‏Today, I am reaching out to you on behalf of hundreds of children whose futures are at risk due to the devastating impacts of recent conflicts. But first let me tell you a little bit about the school before Oct 7th and after Oct 7th. 

‏About BIS: Before Oct 7th: 

‏The British International School in Gaza,licensed by the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education since 2016, is situated in Tel al-Hawa—the most devastated area of Gaza City. This neighborhood has experienced near-total destruction of its infrastructure by military actions. The school served 400 students and had 40 teaches before the war. ‏BIS: After Oct 7th

‏The school premises of the British International School in Gaza have been severely damaged and rendered uninhabitable due to partial destruction by Israeli forces. Tragically, three students have lost their lives, and many more have been left orphaned in the aftermath of the conflict.

‏In response to these dire circumstances, a significant number of our students have sought refuge in neighboring countries. However, they face substantial challenges in continuing their education abroad due to bureaucratic delays, residency issues, and problems with documentation. These obstacles have made traditional schooling difficult to pursue.

‏Given these challenges, online education has become the most viable alternative. It offers a flexible and accessible way for our displaced students to continue their studies uninterrupted, ensuring they receive the education they deserve despite the instability of their current situations. This method not only supports their academic progress but also provides a sense of normalcy and stability in their disrupted lives.

‏Securing a Brighter Future for Gaza's Children Through Education

‏From Gaza, a region scarred by conflict but filled with potential, we are dedicated to providing our children—the future leaders of Gaza—with the high-quality education they deserve.

‏The current situation is critical. The destruction of the British International School in Gaza’s infrastructure means that, even if hostilities ceased immediately, in-person schooling would not be possible.

‏And this is why we are launching a campaign for an E-Learning Platform. 

‏An E-Learning Platform 

‏This platform will offer a rapid, adaptable solution for continuing education amid ongoing disruption from war, enabling students to access learning materials from their homes or wherever they may be located, using just their mobile phones and an internet connection.

‏The platform will include comprehensive educational resources such as e-books, academic plans, and instructional materials. It will facilitate ongoing communication and collaboration among students, their families, and educational staff. Additionally, the platform will offer teacher training and international expertise to support both academic and psychological needs, ensuring that students can continue their education offline if necessary.

‏This initiative will also extend educational opportunities to students who have been injured, those dealing with long-term hospitalizations, and those displaced without access to stable housing, ensuring all children have the chance to learn and grow despite the challenges they face.

‏How the E-Learning Platform Will Help Our Students: 

‏The platform will offer educational services free of additional charges beyond the standard tuition in normal times. It will also provide scholarships to students and families financially impacted by war or other adverse circumstances.

‏Additionally, the platform will extend comprehensive scholarships to students who are injured, have lost their homes, or otherwise cannot access education.

‏For teachers, the platform will aid in planning and facilitate rapid communication with students, supporting them during challenging times. It will also provide specialized training across various fields, attract international experts for psychological and educational guidance, all at no cost.

How Your Contributions Will Be Used:

‏Our immediate goal is to launch programs for psychological support for students and plan to resume the educational process within 5 months, contingent on adequate support.

‏Your contributions will enable us to:

* Develop and implement support programs for students dealing with post-war psychological trauma.

* Initiate a summer recreational program to help students cope post-conflict.

* Create a curriculum tailored to the needs of online education.

* Engage a technology firm to build a comprehensive online platform for students, parents, and staff, complete with necessary training and technical support.

* Cover teacher salaries for an entire academic year.
