In rural areas north of Johannesburg, South Africa, many disadvantaged communities are facing poverty, unemployment, and lack of educational opportunities.
Our project, "Empowering Futures" aims to offer these individuals hope and prospects by fostering their talents and skills, and by enabling sustainable job opportunities and economic chances. By focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the areas of Education, Equality, and No Poverty, we aim to create a better future for young people, women, individuals with disabilities, and other minorities in these communities.
Training in various practical skills, such as sewing bags, tailoring shoes, and painting and designing products will be provided. By linking these newly acquired skills with online platforms, we aim to create sustainable job opportunities that also preserve the region's cultural heritage.
The funds collected through this GoFundMe campaign will be used to support the Golden Youth Club (GYC), a non-profit organization that has empowered thousands of young people and the entire community since its founding in 2001. With your help, we can bridge the gap between education and financial security, providing these disadvantaged groups the opportunity to put their skills to use.
With this campaign we are pursuing three progressive goals:
Goal 1: €10,000 - Basic Support and Skill Development
Reaching this goal will allow us to:
- Provide basic materials and equipment for skills workshops (e.g. sewing machines, tailoring tools, and painting materials).
- Develop and introduce basic digital skills for community members, set up computer stations, and provide internet access.
- Organize and implement "Train-the-Trainer" programs, giving adults the opportunity to pass on their skills and cultural heritage to the next generation.
Goal 2: €25,000 - Expansion and Job Creation
Reaching this goal will allow us to:
- Expand our skill development programs to reach more community members, including individuals with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups.
- Establish small businesses or cooperatives where trained individuals can produce and sell their products, creating jobs and generating income.
- Develop a comprehensive online platform to market and sell products made by community members, further expanding their reach and customer base.
Goal 3: €60,000 - Sustainability and Long-term Impact
Reaching this goal will allow us to:
- Ensure the long-term sustainability of the Golden Youth Club by investing in infrastructure, maintenance of equipment, and staff training.
- Introduce advanced skill development programs, including specialized training in digital design, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
- Build partnerships with local and international organizations to secure ongoing support, resources, and opportunities for community members involved in the project.
