Empowering Families Through Sustainable Farming
Greetings to everyone, my name is Jose-Carly. I am a young Haitian entrepreneur. I left Haiti 4 years ago to permanently live in the United States. To many of you, hearing the news about Haiti for the past 50 years has been heartbreaking; nevertheless, we do have hope that one day things will change. I have faith in that; however, I strongly believe that the change starts within someone with the will to take action. Originally, I was born and raised in the southern part of Haiti, precisely called the Department of the South. The Department of the South is known for its beaches, agriculture, and fishing.
The main economic activity in the department is agriculture, with many small farms growing different crops. In my hometown called Laurent, it is a vibrant little town with respectful and hardworking families. With the previous census that our group did, we counted 177 families out of 225 surviving off agriculture. The infrastructure is not adequate for their production. This is why Pegasus Group is willing to start with a change by purchasing 1 acre of land to build a modern farm with adequate infrastructure to help the families with their production and ease their entrance into the national market and eventually the international market. The farm will create hundreds of jobs for young adults, and it will propel generational wealth for generations to come. We do believe that this will be the first stepping stone of change.
