My name is Layla Hill, and I’m a freshman at the University of South Carolina, majoring in Political Science with aspirations of becoming an attorney. I’m also a proud member of the South Carolina National Guard. In high school, I was involved in JROTC, Beta Club, Student Council, and Drill Team, which helped shape my leadership skills and dedication to serving others. I’m raising funds for an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Kosovo this summer through a faculty-led program, where I’ll be learning about peace-building and post-war conflicts—topics that are critical to my future career. This trip will allow me to grow academically and personally, while also representing Black Americans who are excelling globally. I hope to show that Black Americans are not only traveling the world but actively engaging in transformative experiences.
