In the rural areas of Nepal, women are subjected to great injustice and face many obstacles. The Mandwi organization is working to reverse this and empower women through enabling their financial independence. Please support the women of Nepal through supporting Mandwi.
Rural life is challenging in Nepal. There are few options for employment and and it can be difficult to meet basic family needs. Many men choose to relieve themselves from the pain, by going to the Bhatti ( local shop) to drink. This is expensive and women consistently struggle to budget for the entire family off of their husband's income. Also, women typically don't have working opportunities for themselves to supplement the income.
As a part of our leadership initiative, my team at Arizona State University is raising money to empower the women of Nepal. The money raised will be used to train women in new skills that will enable their financial independence. The specific training initiative we are supporting is to train women to make and sell affordable sanitary pads (a product that is currently expensive and hard to find in Nepal). For every $200 that we collect we can cover expenses for one woman to participate in the training.
