Help Displaced Tigrayans In Mekelle

Empower Tigray is organizing this fundraiser through a fiscal sponsored by Pledges Inc where you will receive documentation for tax exemption purposes. Pledges Inc (EIN: 36-4963438) is a registered 501(c)(3) and is acting fiscal sponsor for this campaign.
Since the war broke out in Tigray November 4th 2020, nearly 2.3 millions of Tigrayan civilians have been made homeless and displaced across Tigray region.
With no food or shelter, many have to rely on locals or anyone who is able to give a helping hand. Unfortunately as these crisis are across Tigray, many are facing the same challenges and with limited resources to food, water and medical aid, not to mention living in complete darkness, the situation is looking dire at this point!
The influx of displaced civilians over the weeks, have forced many to take shelters in empty and unfinished building sites, sleeping on concrete without any bedding or food.
Having to move from area to area where a lot of the shelling and bombing took place, it has resulted in thousands of displaced Tigaru civilians being forced into Mekelle as a result of the war. Although many local residents are facing the same threats and struggles, they initially took it upon themselves to share the little food and resources they had, however, they themselves are now facing starvation.
Despite this fact, this dire situation has inspired and cultivated local hero's to come together using their combined efforts to help those who have been affected by the war. Whilst this a temporary resolution, they have managed to secure empty schools in Mekelle to temporarily safeguard civilians. They are still not able to accommodate them with basic necessities.
Currently there are over 10,000 people displaced in Mekelle in dire need of shelter and food but focusing in one school shelter which has 240 family members.
This was brought to our attention through family members who reside in Mekele and without any potential aid reaching them, this opportunity is one we can't afford to pass on. Our people are facing starvation, living in constant fear, they are reminded daily of the shelling and bombing.
We the Empower Tigray diaspora have therefore created this gofundme to raise some funds to help with basic essentials such as blankets/sheets, cooking utensils, and pots/pans for now, as they are desperately needed at this time.
