Help Empower Teenage and Single Mothers in rural Uganda
We, the Kusuubira Women Foundation, established in 2022, are committed to empowering teenage and single mothers aged 13-26 in Mpigi District, Uganda through skills training, self-discovery, ICT and entrepreneurship workshops, fostering independence and long-term economic sustainability.
Our 16-week skills training programme, which started on the 5th of October, equips these young girls with practical skills such as self-discovery, tailoring, croqueting, ICT and entrepreneurship.
Why This Matters
A 2022 survey by the Kusuubira Women Foundation found that 7 out of 10 women in Mayembe Upper, Mpigi District, live without any income despite being the primary providers for their families. 1 in 4 teenage girls in Uganda become pregnant or have a child by the age of 19, with 84% facing sexual abuse, often resulting in unwanted pregnancies. Moreover, the number of single mothers has risen from 20% in 2020 to approximately 30% in 2023, highlighting the urgent need for support.
Our Vision
We envision a world where teenage and single mothers can unlock their full potential, breaking free from cycles of poverty and exclusion.
Our Key Activities
- Skills Training: Hands-on learning in crocheting, sewing, and tailoring, plus ICT education.
- Safe Spaces: Peer mentoring and coaching sessions to share experiences and build confidence.
- Community Outreach: Workshops focusing on entrepreneurship, marketing, and product creation.
Empowerment in Action
“I have gained self-confidence and can now express myself in front of a crowd. Through learning different skills, I believe in myself and can sell the items I produce to care for my children. I want other women to experience the same.”
— Mama Christine, Trainer, 2024
The Impact of Your Support
Our goal is to establish a revolving fund to provide interest-free loans to these women upon completing their training. This impact-driven loan model allows repaid loans to be reinvested, supporting future women joining our cohort and creating a lasting ripple effect of empowerment in the community.
Our Funding Goal
We are aiming to raise €1,500, which will fund a loan for each of the 15 participants. Your contribution can make a real difference:
€5: Covers transportation costs for one month.
€15: Secures a working space for one month.
€50: Provides an investment for raw materials.
€75: Purchases a sewing machine for one business.
€100: Fully funds a loan for one participant.
Together, we can uplift these women, helping them start businesses, achieve financial stability, and transform their communities.
Join Us in Making a Difference
Your support can transform lives, giving these women the tools to support themselves and their young children. Thank you for considering this opportunity to empower teenage and single mothers in Uganda.
