EMPIRES OF WASTE

Empires of Waste is dedicated to campaigning and researching the role of all kinds of waste in global production systems. From CO2 to plastic to food waste to IT to housing, since the year 2000 global systems of production have churned out increasing amounts of all kinds of waste and make money by producing it.

Waste is given a minor role in driving global climate change, but it's key to producing massive amounts of consumer goods in wealthier areas. The amount of waste is growing - according to the OECD, global plastic waste alone will "almost triple by 2060".

Waste is not just an embarrassing set of discards to be cured by using technology or finance. The ability to waste materials for free or very low cost drives corporate consumption globally; there is an increasing demand by transnational corporations to minimise cost through waste.

Empires of Waste will research and campaign on the role of all kinds of waste and continue to produce important material explaining the importance of tackling it. Without an understanding of the importance of waste mechanisms, global climate change will worsen.
