Emmett’s Adventure Van

Donation protected
Emmett is an almost 3 years old, and will begin school in January. With school starting Emmett now has to be transported in a wheelchair. His parents and all the ones who love him, are raising money for a handicapped accessible van. Any donation is greatly appreciated so that this happy kid can enjoy a more comfortable and safe ride to school, and also to and from all his many doctor appointments at Children's Hospitals in Chicago and around his hometown of Crown Point, IN.

The money raised will go towards modifying a van to Emmett’s needs. This will include taking out the middle seats and putting in a side wheelchair ramp. Jake and Kristi Kabella (father and mother of Emmett) will be withdrawing the money into there account and then transferring the money to an account made for Emmett’s Van. Once all funds are available we will get a quote from Superior Van and Mobility in South Bend, IN. From there we will take the funds and pay for Braunability in Winamac, IN to make all modifications that are needed specifically for Emmett’s needs.

Emmett was diagnosed with a VERY rare gene mutation called UBA5.  Children with UBA5, present in early infancy with irritability, poor tone in the trunk (they are floppy) and with time, increased tone in the arms and legs (spasticity). Dystonia is present and is something that affects the patients quite severely. Dystonia is an involuntary movement disorder. Involuntary movement disorders are movements that are not under the patient’s control and can cause significant disability. In addition, these patients have seizures, poor head growth and intellectual disabilities.

Research is very limited but all the UBA5 families are doing everything they can to fight for these kids!

Thank you all so much for taking time to read about Emmett and helping us out! Without all of your support we wouldn’t be where we are today! You all mean more then you will ever know to us!
