Emma's Volunteer Trip to India

Donation protected
Hello friends and family! As a new student at Forhdam University, I decided I wanted to get involved in a service program inspired by the Jesuit values of my school. Two weeks after school began, I was informed of Fordham's Global Outreach (GO!) program where students take time away from their school vacation to participate in a service program in countries all over the world. After spending 3 weeks this past April and May In Thailand, I really wanted to head back to Asia, so I decided to apply to the service trip headed for India over my three week winter break in January! With an intense invterview and application process and over 70 students applying for the India trip, I didn't get my hopes up. But as luck would have it, I was selected as one of eleven other students to embark on Fordham's India service trip! Delighted, I quickly found out more about this once in a lifetime opporunity and am excited to announce my group and I will be working with the Missionairies of Charity, the order founded by Mother Teresa in Calcutta assisting the sick, hungry, abandoned, and orphaned. After spending a week at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand in early 2017, I have truly fallen in love with the idea of service work and travel being paired together and cannot wait for this experience that will allow me to work at a human orphanage in India after being at an elephant orphanage in Thailand. However, the cost of my trip is high and as team members, GO! encourages us to fundraise as much as possible. No donation is too small and every bit of support means so much to me. Any donation made after reaching my goal will be given to my Global Outreach team or donated to the Missionaries of Charity. If you could help me fund this journey to help people in need, I would be eternally grateful, happy, and honored to go forth and do God's good work. In the words of Mother Teresa, "the miracle is not that we do this work, but that we are happy to do it."
Love and Thanks,
Emma Nelson
