Emma's Global Health trip to Peru

Donation protected
Emma is an amazing kid. At the age of 11 she lamented that she hadn't yet accomplished anything in life. I encouraged her by saying that at such a young age, life hadn't even begun. Perhaps she should find a goal to strive for and go for it. And did she! Later that summer she was among the youngest from MN to climb Devil's Tower.

And she hasn't stopped since. In the following years she has summitted Half Dome in Yosemite and hiked above 10,000 feet in the Tetons.

Emma continues to impress us in the classroom as well. As a member of the National Honor Society, she maintains a high GPA. Emma has begun the International Baccalaureate program in high school, taking all accelerated classes; some above her grade level.  Emma hasn't stopped thinking about what she can accomplish in the world since age 11. She is interested in Doctor's Without Borders or ER medicine.  Which brings us to our fundraising campaign.

Global Leadership Adventures crafts volunteer programs that are immersive and multidimensional by combining three key components: Community Service, Hands-On Learning, and Adventure. Experiencing a country through all three lenses invites students to have heightened opportunities for getting to know local residents and lends a strong sense of purpose to their travel. Emma has chosen to volunteer on a public health research project with high-altitude Andean communities in Peru. She will help a local organization deliver campaigns on holistic health and medical awareness, and learn about their traveling clinics, which strive to reach communities in the Andes and provide free, quality care that they would otherwise have no access to.

While in Peru Emma will shadow nurses and community health workers and take part of a multi-day course of skills training. She'll learn how basic health monitoring works, pick up medical terms and listen to a moderated panel discussion of Peruvian health workers. In the evenings, the volunteers will discuss their observations, the cases they have witnessed and the first steps to take to increase global access to healthcare.

Being involved in such an experience will not be without adventure! During their last days in Peru, Emma will get the chance to hike to Machu Picchu. What a bucket list item for our Emma!!

We need your help to get her there! The two week trip total cost, all inclusive, is $5000.  Any contribution will be effective and helpful.  This is a wonderful opportunity for Emma to give back to the world while learning more about herself and her life goals.
The trip is June of 2018 however the payment for participation is due by the end of 2017 to still receive the 2017 pricing.  Please take the time to donate now; Emma's learning adventure awaits!
Thank you for supporting such an inspirational kid.
