Emma's Diabetic Alert Dog

Emma is a friend a daughter, sister, niece, athlete, honor student, member of student council and coaches her little sisters in basketball and cheer. She is also a Type 1 insulin dependent diabetic.
Emma was diagnosed at CHOP when she was 7 years old in second grade. She had not been herself for a few weeks and had a "virus" that sent her to the pediatrician. He looked at her and said we will run a test but get ready to go to chop she has diabetes. Normal sugars are around 100 and Emma was over 700. Emma never cried, she was such a trooper during this life changing experience. Imagine going from being a kid eating whatever whenever you want to having to count every single carb that you eat. She came home from the hospital with an entire different way of life. Emma has spent the last 5 years working tirelessly to keep her disease under control, having to adjust and add insulin to her body every time she eats. She has been hospitalized 4 times for DKA which is a serious complication. The last time was the worst, she spent 13 hours in the ER then was put in the ICU. Emma recently got a continuous glucose monitor. It read sugar levels every 5 minutes and recently, her sugar has been dropping to 40 through the night and rising into the 400s and back which is extremely dangerous. Emma has researched diabetic alert dogs and has been approved for a dog to stay with her at all and at night it is trained to sniff if her and recognize her sugar level changes and wake her to properly adjust These animals can be life-saving and life-changing. Unfortunately the cost of the dog is $15,000 and Emma has started to save every penny she gets to reach this goal. She is too young to get a job so let's try to help her get her dog and ensure that she is always safe. Please read below for some facts on diabetes.
