Emmanuel’s medical care and treatment

Hi, my name is Emmanuel Ramirez. In February of 2022, I was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure and was required to start hemodialysis immediately. Due to the extent of my condition, I had to receive hemodialysis treatment 3 times a week, with each session taking 4 long, and exhausting hours. When I first heard the news about my kidney failure, my wife was 6 months pregnant with our daughter. I forced myself to power through it and be strong for my family’s sake, but it has not been easy.

Since I began hemodialysis, I have been unable to live life the way I used to. I have also been unable to work since my diagnosis. The treatments physically drained me to the point where I can not do anything. I want to help support my family, but my body does not respond like it should. My wonderful wife is burdened with the task of picking up the slack. She is currently working full time, with day and night shifts, while also caring for our 7 month old daughter and me.

I am currently on the donor transplant list at Northwestern Hospital. My wife and brother-in-law are both in the long process of testing to see if they are a compatible match to donate their kidneys. My wife has to wait a year after childbirth before she can donate which adds more stress to our dire situation.

All funds raised would be used for medical and travel expenses.The expenses would include the cost of surgery, post-op recovery and any medications that would not be fully covered by insurance.
