Emma Martin's Mom and Dad

Hi Everyone! We are reaching out to all of you for a helping hand. As you know Tabatha and Tyler had their first child, Emma,  born May 22, 2017. They found out early in the pregnancy that Emma had gastroschisis, and that Tabatha would need to be induced in late June. Although, they were preparing for her arrival, they were not prepared for her to be born in May. They are staying at the Ronald McDonald house, and they are taking very good care of them.  Tabatha is unable to return to work due to her c-section, and trying to stay on top of Emma's medical care. Not to mention, her position where she was working through an temp agency has since been filled.  Emma was progressing nicely, and then has hit a bit of a wall. At this point, the doctors are trying to come up with plan  B and C. Tabatha is feeling the pressure of returning to work to help cover their expenses, when she should be caring for Emma.

What is gastroschisis? It is a birth defect of the abdominal wall, where the baby's intestines grow outside of the baby's belly through a hole beside her belly button. It occurs when the muscles that make up the baby's abdominal wall don't form correctly. The causes and risk factors for gastroschisis are unknown and almost 1900 babies are born with it each year. Emma has already endured surgery to place the abdominal organs inside her body and repair the abdominal wall.  She has been kept in the NICU for healing for the last 3 weeks, and no sign of coming home anytime soon.  This can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. The average length of stay for a baby after gastroschisis surgery is a month and a half. As her intestines slowly begin working she will need to be fed through a tube that goes through a large vein or a tube that passes through the nose or mouth into the stomach.

They appreciate anything and everything that they have received and couldn't be more excited that Emma is here!  We thank you all for your love, your prayers,  your donations and your support as they go through this.
