Emlen kids to see Black Panther

Donation protected
Black Panther is a game changer. For the first time African American children will have the opportunity to see an on screen hero that looks like them. In terms of representation this movie is huge, on screen and off. The cast is almost entirely African American as is the Director and writers of the film. The movie has broken presale ticket records and is the second most antipacted movie of 2018.

Here at Emlen, the students we serve are predominately African American and living at or below the poverty line. Our goal is to send at least 40 students from grades 3-5 to see the film. With a movie as big of a deal as this one, we do not want our students financials to prevent them from getting to experience this moment in history for the Black Community.

The cost of each ticket will be $10.28 per person and the cost of a school bus for transportation will be about $200-250. The other $250 will be used to provide students with a kid sized tray of popcorn, drink, and fruit snacks.

After reaching our original goal of $750, we have decided keeping going and raise our goal to $1,000 in hopes of providing the students with snacks for the movie! This push is to  alleviate any cost associated with the trip on the families of our school.

Any additional funds will be used towards our Student Activity Fund, which supports a variety of school activities and incentives.  Emlen Elementary School in the East Mt Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia.
