Emily loves exploring. When she graduated with her bachelor's degree, she took me sky diving in Snohomish, Washington. She climbed Mt. Saint Helens last summer with friends and she has hiked and adventured all over the Pacific Northwest.
Emily is currently in her master's program, going to Portland State University full time, pursuing a Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree. While attending school and taking care of her dog, Effie, she works full time as a Career Development Services Assistant Manager, helping disabled adults find suitable job positions. Emily is selfless and has always had a passion for helping people. Now it is time for us to help her.
Emily has been experiencing back pain and numbness in her lower body for over six months. She has been visiting doctors, practicing yoga, going to physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture treatments, etc. --nobody could tell her what was causing this debilitating pain and nothing seemed to help. In late August (8/27) Emily went into the Emergency Room and requested to have an MRI done; they found a large cancerous mass compressing her spine. A neurosurgeon called for an emergency surgery to remove the pressure from her spinal cord. Since further testing, we now know the primary source of cancer originated in her breast. They have diagnosed her with stage 4 breast cancer that spread to her spine.
We are still waiting for final test results so her oncology team can determine a definite treatment plan. We are anticipating more surgeries along with chemotherapy and radiation. This will be a long journey for her and will have a large financial burden on Emily and our family. We are asking from the bottom of our hearts, if you are willing and able, to support Emily through this extremely difficult time. We appreciate any and all support.
