Emily and Nick's Angel Fund

Donation protected

This is a photo of my niece and nephew on the first day of school last month.  Nicholas is 10 years old and is in the 5th grade at Jean Paul II in Val Caron.  He loves reading, listening to music, watching scary movies and has the biggest heart for animals.  His big sister Emily is 12, in grade 7 and loves to sew, paint and just started a new job babysitting for friends and neighbors.

This is is all meant to sound pretty 'normal' up to now.   A few days ago, this normal world was suddenly flipped upside down and will never be the same.

On the afternoon of October 10th 2017, Emily and Nick received the devastating news that firefighters were unexpectedly called to their father's home that morning after a  passerby noticed smoke coming from the basement of his house.  Their dad had been alone the night before and while we still do not know how the electrical fire started, one thing is certain: he did not make it out alive.  His breathless body was found trying to fight off the flames by the firefighters who responded to the call that morning.

For Emily and Nick, there were no warnings, no alarms, no sirens, just silence.  Heart-wrenching, deafening silence.  There had been no hints telling them to hug their dad tighter or to make sure to call him with an "I love you" just before bed.   There was no reminder to make him laugh one more time or watch another movie cuddled on the couch.  What is left are only quiet, empty hearts that are burning in their chests from not being able to tell him how much they loved him before he went away.

This fundraiser is for Emily and Nick.  It is to help them pick up the pieces and to remind them that they are loved by their extended family and friends.  The funds collected through this angel campaign will be put towards the cost of their education, health and wellbeing, their family expenses and the healing of their broken hearts.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
