For Emily

Friends —

On February 15, 2018, Emily lost her mother, Marianne. I also lost my lifelong friend. Marianne was loved by many and her loss will be deeply felt by her family and friends always.

Emily’s life is forever changed with this devastating and heartbreaking loss. Anyone who knew Marianne knew how extraordinarily proud she was of Emily and her achievements. Marianne used the hashtag #emily*****superstar to describe her daughter and posted pictures on Facebook of Emily’s awards displayed on the refrigerator.

Emily is a straight A student who loves music. She plays in marching band, wind ensemble, indoor percussion, jazz band and for the Williamsport Community Band. She plays the saxophone, cello, ukulele and probably more.

Emily is currently staying with a wonderful foster family so she can finish school with her friends. When I asked what I could do to help, it was suggested that funds to continue Emily’s private music lessons would be helpful. Additionally, Emily is just 3+ years away from college.

While I’m acting as administrator, Emily’s Aunt Catherine (Marianne’s older sister) has volunteered to serve as the beneficiary for Emily. So, while the original intent is to raise money for Emily’s private music lessons and/or start a college fund, this fund does not have strings attached. Emily and Catherine will decide the best use for the funds based on Emily's needs.

Marianne had a photo of the following quote in her Facebook feed:

“Man, sometimes it takes you a long time to sound like yourself.” ~ Miles Davis

My wish for Emily is that she has the love and resources to sound like herself despite this devastating loss. In my last text with Marianne, Marianne was struggling and worried about how her struggles affected Emily. In an attempt to reassure Marianne, my last words to her were ‘Emily will be ok. She’s a great kid.’ This is one small way of helping to ensure my last words come true.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance from the bottom of my heart.
