My name is Emily Stefan and I am a Sophomore at West Albany High School in the great state of Oregon. I have been invited to participate in this year’s DownUnder Sports Tournament for Track and Field (July 7 – 15, 2019) located on the beautiful Gold Coast of Australia. This is an amazing opportunity for me as a rising track and field athlete.
I had my first sprinting experience in my school’s Little Olympics day in elementary school. Running barefoot on a sun-burned field of grass in Oklahoma, I didn’t quite know what track and field was yet, but I learned I was faster than the boys and I’d race them for their chocolate chip cookies! Haha! We moved to Oregon in middle school and that’s when I became a part of the Memorial Middle School Track and Field team and fell in love with sprinting. Now into my 6th year of competitive track, I continue to train hard and set bigger goals for myself…in the form of strength and PRs instead of cookies.
During the high school season my main events are the 100m, 200m, 4X100m relay, and 4X400m relay. As we get closer to the summer club track meets, I hope to rotate in the 400m, long jump, and possibly pole vault. I enjoy the big invitational meets where I can sprint alongside some of the best athletes in the region and hope to earn a spot along with them at this year’s National Junior Olympics meet in Sacramento. Track and field has helped me build a strong foundation for leadership, sportsmanship, and companionship. I have met some of the most remarkable people, including other high school athletes, competitive collegiate athletes, amazing coaches and former Olympians. I can’t imagine not being a part of the track and field community.
My parents are very supportive of my track and field adventures, training and competitions. But, as you can imagine, an international competition like this is quite a financial undertaking in addition to our regular track and field competition season. I am here to ask for additional support, via donation and/or business sponsorship to help offset the expense for this incredible opportunity. We hope to reach our fundraising goal by May 1st. Every little bit helps, and every donation is greatly appreciated!
I thank you, in advance, for taking the time to read my post and hope you consider donating. I am honored and humbled to have been invited to be an ambassador for my community while representing Oregon and look forward to competing with Team USA in Australia this summer!
