Emily's Diabetic Alert Dog

UPDATE:

We have found the company we are going to work with to get Emily’s dog. It’s called Heads Up Hounds and they are located in Nebraska. We’ve raised enough money to put the deposit down, and now need less than $6,000 to pay the balance and for the trip to pick up her dog and work directly with the trainer for three days. We also have several fundraisers coming up and we’ll keep you updated on those. We want to thank all of you for your generosity, support, time and love while we work toward our goal. Please continue to share. Thank you and we love you!

We are trying to raise money for Emily to get a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD).  DADs are specially trained service dogs who notify us of any high or low blood sugar issues before an emergency occurs.  These alerts are so crucial to keeping Em safe and keeping her sugars in check, helping to prevent the risk of coma and/or seizures.

Even with Emily testing and monitoring her sugar regularly, these high or low sugars can come out of nowhere.  A lot of times Em cannot feel the symptoms of a super high or super low sugar episode; especially when she's sleeping.  Her DAD will be with her wherever she goes.  He'll go to school with her and he will be able to alert her wherever they are; even if she is sleeping.  Once the dog alerts Em to a sugar event, she can test her sugar and treat the event appropriately.  If the dog cannot wake her, he'll come and get help for her.

Diabetic Alert Dogs are very specialized and expensive to raise and train to prevent sugar emergencies.  Her dog is going to cost $15,000 and comes with a life time guarantee on it's training.  This also includes the trainer bringing the dog to Emily and working with Em and us to know how to best utilize the dog's training.

We need to raise the initial $2,500 to be put on the waiting list.  The wait is generally about 5 months.  At the end of the waiting period, we will need to pay $5,000, and then the remaining $7500 is due within a certain time period of delivery of the dog and training with the family.

The service dog would be such a blessing and help us to feel more assured of her health and safety - especially when she is not with us or if she is sleeping.

Thank you for donating to assist us with our goal of obtaining a Diabetic Alert Dog for Emily.  We are very grateful for your generous donation.
