Emily's Africa Mission Trip 2020

This summer I have the opportunity to travel to the East African countries of Uganda and Kenya June 29 – July 18. The youth group at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ is sponsoring the mission trip and is collaborating with missionary leaders in Mbale, Uganda and Kitale, Kenya to develop a campaign in which we will promote Christian grace and build on the good work these men and women steward year-round. I have been blessed with the incredible opportunity to join them this year!

     Our ministry plans to-date include hosting youth meetings at various village churches – preaching and leading worship in each – and working with Kenya Church of Christ Children’s Home leaders to host a sports tournament that will include other Kitale-area children’s homes. Further, we plan to make ourselves available to help freshen up the children’s home facilities by painting classrooms and doing landscaping. Regardless of our activity, I am excited about the opportunity to share the love of Christ through ministry and service! 

     This trip, while an incredible opportunity to serve and grow in my faith, is also a return home in a very personal way. As a Uganda native missionary kid, this is an opportunity to return and serve the country of my birth. I am really looking forward to reconnecting with the work that my family has been involved in for generations now.

     All that said, there are many things to do before departure on June 29.  A necessary preparation is raising funds. The mission is not cheap, as travel to Africa and our ministry costs are significant. My expenses will come in at $3,500, and will include ministry resources, air and ground transportation, food and lodging, and many unforeseen costs. While the team (of 22) has already raised a significant amount of funds, as the only non-member of Quaker I am raising funds individually.

     I would like to request that you cover our group in prayer. Please pray for safety and smooth travel to and from East Africa, as well as during our time there. Please pray that our contact with the people there will be a blessing to them, and that we will grow in our ability to bless others by the experience. Most of all, pray that we will represent Jesus in all that we do!
