Emily's Medical Recovery Expenses

On 6/2/17 Emily was treated for a simple bladder infection; however fevers reaching 106.3 prompted additional trips via ambulance to the Emergency room on 6/5 and 6/6/17. Blood cultures showed the infection moved from her urinary track to her blood stream and her blood was septic with gram negative E.Coli. Emily was admitted to the hospital 6/6/17 and started on IV antibiotics and hydration fluids. During this time she, in error, received too many fluids and was put into what she and her family was told by the Infectious Disease doctor was, “Fluid overdose.” In a very short time Emily went into Congestive Heart Failure, Respiratory Failure and Kidney Distress. She was place on a bypass machine to push the fluids out of her lungs while her body was chemically dehydrated. During her ER visits and 14 day inpatient stay from 6/5/17-6/19/17 she received 3 chest CAT scans, 5 separate occurrences of chest x-rays (both single and double view), an echocardiogram,  2 EKGs, ultrasounds on both kidneys and bladder, a Bronchoscopy and 3 ultrasound guided IV placements Mediline, upon extensive daily lab draws and other various medical procedures and treatments. She was employed at the same medical center, but during her inpatient stay her job position was terminated due to, “being unable to provide a return to work date,” according to the letter received from Human Resources. She was discharged 6/19/17 with a continued diagnosis of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Her medical care continues next with upcoming Pulmonary Function testing and another chest CAT scan which will give more direction on where to go from here. As of her post-discharge appointment today, Monday 6/26/17, she is still dependent on continuous 24 hour 2Liter flow oxygen, breathing treatments and steroids so she cannot be cleared to work and is a single parent. Secondary to her ARDS the steroid treatments she is receiving is affecting her diabetes causing extreme neuropathy in her toes which she will be working with Endocrinology to manage. Her employment related medical insurance is set to expire 6/30/17. This gofundme is being created to assist with expenses while out of work; which includes everything from food, medical costs, rent for 7/1/17 and other daily expenses. She is grateful to all whom are able to assist her financially through this time, and is just as equally grateful for gestures of good wishes from those unable to assist financially. Once she is able to work and is back on her feet she will do everything she can to pay it forward, as she has a service to others caregiver heart herself.
