Please help our daughter rebuild her beautiful life.
Today is Emily’s 31st day in the hospital.
She was rushed unconscious to Johns Hopkins on January 8 and spent the next 3 weeks in ICU on life support. On the 15th day, they discovered that she’d very recently suffered a left-brain vascular accident (stroke). In an instant, her original diagnosis of ‘serotonin syndrome’ (caused by adverse interaction of flu meds with anti-depressants), became a secondary consideration.
The good news is that the neuro team is guardedly optimistic that Emily will eventually be able to regain full, normal cognition and use of her right hand/arm, although it will likely take six months of rehab therapy, or longer.
The bad news is that her financial demise will arrive much sooner. The loss of her income, coupled with the normal expenses of month-to-month living, and compounded exponentially by her medical bills and related recovery expenses, means that without an infusion of cash she will certainly face default, foreclosure, and bankruptcy in the coming months.
Initial conservative estimates indicate a need for $40 - 50,000 to keep her solvent, to keep her in her home, and to ensure that the quality of her rehab program is top-notch and continuous.
With the help of contributions to this fund-raiser, along with a lot of hard work on her part, and a little luck, there’s a decent chance that Emily will be able to return to her job as a Hopkins nurse sometime later this year, and still have her home, and will be able to put her beautiful, giving life back together.
Emily has always been a selfless giver, a responder, a rescuer.
