Hi, my name is Emily Cameron and I am an elected member of the Fresno County Democratic Central Committee. I am a 26-year-old, queer, democratic socialist activist and community organizer. I seek financial assistance to hire an attorney.
At our July and August meetings, I attempted to pass bans on police contributions to the Fresno County Democratic Central Committee (the local party). Shortly thereafter, unreasonable, false, and defamatory allegations were made against me by the FCDCC executive board in an attempt to permanently remove me from the FCDCC. I intend to take legal action.
I believe I am being unfairly targeted due to my political beliefs and my attempts to remove police funding from the Democratic Party. I am a proud proponent of defunding the police - which the California Democratic Party also supports - and I believe in speaking truth to power. I am extremely disappointed that the Fresno County Democratic Central Committee's executive board has decided to go down this road instead of simply voting down my proposals and letting it go. Unfortunately, I am out of options.
