Funeral Expenses for Emilio Ortiz

On Saturday evening my 15 year old nephew Emilio suffered a tragic accident. He was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. He sustained severe brain injuries, collapsed lungs, broken jaw, and several broken bones. The details of the accident are still unknown. Emilio is the oldest of 4 boys born to my sister Gabriela "Patty" and brother in law Luis. Most who first meet him notice his big dark eyes, long lashes, and big smile. From a young age  Emilio was so inquisative that he had to know everything about everything. It is because of his curiosity that he loved to talk to everyone. Everyone he met through his eagerness to know about somthing loved him. He held his own with any grown person he spoke with. As such, it is to no surprise the outpoor of suport the family has received since the news of this tragedy. The proof is in the packed waiting room and halls outside the ICU, where everyone is standing in tears and disbelief waiting their turn to see him and hoping for a miracle.  Emilio was declared brain dead on Tuesday evening after the doctors and staff performed several tests. However, there's been some contradiction in the results and medical opinions. This has lead his parents to seek conclusive answer through a second opinion. They are heartbroken and suffering an unbearable pain, but as a parent they want to first exhaust all their options before making any final decisions.  Today I would like to ask for those of you who can to support them by contributing towards Emilio's medical expenses and other expenses to come. I ask that if you cannot contribute monetarily, that you help us by sharing his story amongst your circle of family and friends and keep my nephew Emilio and his parents in your prayers.  On the family's behalf thank you to all for your support and prayers and we appreciate all the love. El sábado por la tarde mi sobrino Emilio, de 15 años, sufrió un trágico accidente. Él fue golpeado por un vehículo mientras montaba su bicicleta. Sufrió lesiones cerebrales severas, pulmones colapsados, mandíbula rota y varios huesos rotos. Los detalles del accidente aún se desconocen. Emilio es el mayor de 4 hermanos nacidos de mi hermana Gabriela "Patty" y mi cuñado Luis. La mayoría de los que lo conocen por primera vez notan sus grandes ojos oscuros, largas pestañas y una gran sonrisa. Desde muy joven, Emilio era tan inquisitivo que tenía que saber todo sobre todo. Es por su curiosidad que le encantaba hablar con todos. Todos los que conoció a través de su afán por saber algo lo amaron. Se mantuvo firme con cualquier persona adulta con quien hablara. Como tal, no es de extrañar el exceso de apoyo que la familia ha recibido desde la noticia de esta tragedia. La prueba está en la atestada sala de espera y en las salas fuera de la UCI, donde todos están llorando e incrédulos esperando su turno para verlo y esperando un milagro. Emilio fue declarado con muerte cerebral el martes por la noche después de que los médicos y el personal realizaron varias pruebas. Sin embargo, ha habido alguna contradicción en los resultados y las opiniones médicas. Esto ha llevado a sus padres a buscar una respuesta concluyente a través de una segunda opinión. Están desconsolados y sufren un dolor insoportable, pero como padres quieren agotar todas sus opciones antes de tomar una decisión final. Hoy me gustaría pedirles a aquellos de ustedes que puedan apoyarlos contribuyendo con los gastos médicos de Emilio y otros gastos por venir. Le pido que si no puede contribuir monetariamente, nos ayude compartiendo su historia entre su círculo de familiares y amigos, y conserve a mi sobrino Emilio y sus padres en sus oraciones.
