Emilia Hernandez our Cancer Warrior

My name is Vanessa Portillo and I have created this gofundme for Emilia Hernandez originally from Superior, AZ, and lives in Mesa.  Not only is she my aunt, but she is a mother, kindergarten teacher at Jack Barnes Elementary, sister, and friend.  She has taught for 12 years, and has taught in Superior, at John F. Kennedy, and in Phoenix, at Wilson Elementary.

She was diagnosed with cancer this past January. Since then, she has been through radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. She finished her last round of chemotherapy on November 30th. She is scheduled to have another surgery next month, and we are all praying for good news thereafter.

Seeing her go through this journey has been tough, but through it all, she is one of the strongest and most determined women I know. For example, she would go to her chemo session for the day and be at work the next, teaching to her full potential. She comes to work every day with a positive attitude. She never skips a beat!
Emilia is always the first person to lend a helping hand and I challenge you to lend a helping hand in return.
