Emerson Needs a Bike

Emerson is 9 years old. She has Charcot Marie Tooth Disorder type 2C. It falls under the umbrella of muscular dystrophy. Her type of disorder is newly discovered and unique because it is non-hereditary. Because of this, doctors don't really know how the disorder will progress - Emerson and her family do not know what to expect, or what the future holds, they just have to keep going and make the best of every day.
At her young age, Emerson has already been through two surgeries, is on a waiting list for her third, and according to doctors she has more to come as she grows. Building muscle is the only way to slow down the deterioration that is happening, and she can't swim because she has a tracheostomy.
Emerson loves to bike, but she has not had the opportunity since she was little and could ride a tricycle. Emerson's mom has found the perfect bike for her with the help of physiotherapists from Kidsability - which will help her build muscle, and will also give her the joy and freedom of riding around on her own.
The bike is specially built so she doesn't have to push hard to make it move. It also has a block between her thighs to keep her from moving in the seat and keep her legs turned out so she can push. It has a lower and upper back support because of her spine and trach, as well as handles for someone to push if she gets tired.
The bike grows with her so she would be able to use it as long as she is able to use her legs. Emerson's mom says that they will donate it to a family who needs it if she ever grows out of it or can't use it.
But this bike is quite expensive, and unfortunately, the family has not found any charities for which they could qualify for some financial support. The family is going to contribute $1,000 towards this bike, and are hoping that friends and family will contribute towards the remaining cost of $3,600.
I told Emerson's mom that I thought this was totally doable. If 144 people give $25 each, we are done!
