<div><strong>Urgent Lifesaving Care in Toronto Awaits to Treat Maya’s Extreme Burns. Help Bring Her Home Now.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While on a spiritual journey in the Peruvian Amazon, Maya Moreno fell into a volcanic river and sustained severe burns over 70% of the body. Maya had returned to Peru on an individual healing journey to an established retreat centre at this sacred site specifically —one of deep personal and ancestral significance—when the accident occurred. Urgent funds are needed to bring Maya home to Toronto for life-saving treatment at Sunnybrook’s Ross Tilley Burn Centre.

<div><strong>An Accident in the Amazon and the Urgent Need to Evacuate to Canada</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our dear friend and family member, Maya Moreno—known to many by birth name David Moreno Hernandez—has suffered a tragic accident while in Peru on a personal healing and spiritual journey to a widely recognized sacred place in the Amazonian rainforest.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Urgent help is needed to cover significant and unexpected medical, travel, and related costs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The journey took Maya to the sacred region of the Shanay-timpishka, also known as the Boiling River in the Peruvian Amazon—a rare geothermal phenomenon and a place of deep spiritual significance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This pilgrimage was part of a longstanding path of healing and reconnection with ancestral wisdom that has guided Maya’s life for many years.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Ross Tilley Burn Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto has agreed to accept Maya as a patient.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The accepting physician has reviewed medical information and emphasized the need to act immediately to bring Maya home for critical medical treatment.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Severe Burns Over 70% of the Body</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On Monday, March 24, while meditating near the extremely hot geothermal river, Maya fainted and tragically fell into the Boiling River, suffering severe burns over 70% of the body.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Maya is currently in intensive care in Pucallpa, Peru, under strict medical isolation to reduce the risk of infection.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Maya’s brother, Daniel, travelled over two days to reach the remote Amazonian city to provide essential emotional and logistical support.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Local Hospital in Peru Is Under-Resourced and Poses High Risk</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>However, the small regional hospital is not equipped to meet Maya’s complex and urgent medical needs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This small medical facility, 17 hours from the capital of Lima, is relying on someone from the same spiritual retreat community to help provide critical medical support. Anita, who has stayed nearby to advocate for Maya, is purchasing prescription drugs and bandages from the local pharmacy. Yesterday, she needed to buy a new mattress.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Evacuation to Canada Is Critical</strong>
</div>
<div>A medical evacuation to Canada is now critical.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Surgery is required to preserve function in Maya’s hands and feet—areas deeply affected by the burns.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Without timely intervention, there is a serious risk of permanent damage and life-altering limitations.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Given the severity of injuries and the high risk of infection, an air ambulance equipped with an intensive care unit and staffed by a specialized medical team is required for the long journey home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The cost of evacuation is estimated at $125,000 CAD. A fundraising goal of $150,000 CAD has been set to cover the medical evacuation and support ongoing treatment costs in Peru and Canada.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every contribution will go directly toward Maya’s recovery and care.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Beloved Maya</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Maya is a cherished friend and community member, known for embodying humility, care, and deep spiritual practice.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Maya is also a talented gardener who works with gentle, capable hands to bring beauty into the world—hands that now urgently need protection and healing to preserve that gift.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Please Help Bring Maya Home</strong>
</div>
<div>This tragedy has shaken an entire community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please help rally the circle of friends, family, and compassionate supporters to provide the resources Maya now urgently needs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Give what you can, share this message widely, and help bring Maya home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Deepest thanks for every act of generosity, prayer, and support.

</div>

</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>

</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>La evacuación a Canadá es crucial!</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Una evacuación médica a Canadá es crucial.
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Querida Maya</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Por favor, ayuden a traer a Maya a casa.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
