Emergency Vet Bills for Ash and Felix

Donation protected
This has been a really rough month for the Culp family. Over the last 2 weeks I’ve had to rush both of my cats, Ash (gray one) and Felix (black one), to the emergency vet for urinary blockages, a condition which can often be fatal when not treated immediately. Thankfully both cats are home now and are recovering safely, however I now find myself financially overwhelmed by the emergency vet bills. Between the two of them, the expenses have currently totaled $3,520, and will likely grow with future follow up appointments.

Thankfully, my mom and little sister generously lent me the funds I couldn't cover on my own so that the cats could receive the care they needed.  I would like to pay them back as soon as possible, as they have had to put their own dreams and goals on hold to contribute this amount. Unfortunately though, after being forced to take time off of work this month due to a COVID scare and the cats' health crisis, I've lost quite a bit of income. As a full-time Walmart employee I don’t make much to begin with and it will likely take me years to be able to pay them back.

Please help me recover financially so that I can reimburse my family after they stepped up to save my cats lives.

What happened?:
On the evening of December 5, I returned home from work to discover that my cat Ash (the grey one), had become unable to urinate, and likely hadn’t relieved himself in nearly 24 hours. I rushed him to the emergency vet clinic, where we discovered he had a urinary blockage, a condition which can be life threatening if not treated quickly (read more about these here).

We feared for the worst, but after an emergency procedure and some follow up visits Ash pulled through and was on the road to recovery.  Then, literally the day we got the all-clear from the vet (December 18th), my other cat Felix (the black one) had to be rushed to the emergency vet for the exact same reason. Felix’s blockage was more severe than Ash’s, and required a more intense procedure and additional overnight stays at the emergency vet.

Both cats are now home and healing. Their road to recovery has included new medications, change in diet, and lifestyle adjustments.

Cost of Treatment:
Below is a breakdown of the various vet bills from the last two weeks. To view the actual bill scans, check out the recent updates.

+  Ash emergency vet visit 12/5 -  $757
+  Ash emergency follow-up 12/7 - $584
+  Ash final follow-up appointment 12/18 - $157
+  Felix emergency vet visit 12/18-12/20 - $2,021
Felix Follow-Up Visit, scheduled for 1/2/21 - $157-500?

I
have a$1,000 line of credit through CareCredit just in case of emergencies like this. Unfortunately the magnitude of these costs has blasted through that amount, and I’ve  had to rely on my mom and sister to pay for all other costs.

My sister currently works in fast food, and the money I borrowed from her was for a car which would have given her access to better paying jobs in the area. She has been saving up this money for a couple years now and I hate slowing down her progress towards independence.

My mom is a single mom who works in a low paying job answering phones.  She works hard everyday, usually going overtime and rarely taking days off, all so she can save up her money to help fix up her home and take care of her family.

Funds Raised:
With this fundraiser my #1 priority is paying back the money my mom and sister have lent me, approximately $2,720-$3220 (pending Felix’s follow up appointment). Any funds after that will go towards my own financial recovery, and paying off the $1,000 line of credit I have used. Any contributions after that will help me fund their continued care, which includes a new prescription diet, monthly pheromone diffusers, and improvements to their environment.

Thank you for your kindness and consideration. Any contribution, even $5 is so very appreciated. 2020 has been a rough year for us all, so even if you can’t contribute if you could just share this link that would be a big help. Again thank you very much, and may your holidays be merry and bright!
