Hi, my name is Amber Smith. I am reaching out for my brother Jason, and his girlfriend Sammie’s dog, Achilles.

Last week, Achilles managed to ate a corn cob and hasn’t ate since Tuesday night… Wednesday morning he started vomiting and straining bowel movements. Jason called strait vet in port hawkesbury and they suspected worms and gave him a dewormer to give to Achilles but he had no interest in eating it at all. later that day he was still persistently vomiting so Jason called the emergency vet in baddeck, who also suspected it was just worms and they told us go to strait vet in port Hawkesbury Thursday to get him looked at. On Thursday we took him in and since he was so scared we couldn’t get bloodwork or X-rays done but very still suspected worms so we were given medication to stop his vomiting in order for him to be able to take the dewormer…. No improvements and he vomited all Thursday night. This morning we called strait vet in port hawkesbury and had to take him in. they had to sedated to get blood and X-rays. We found out he has a blockage in his small intestine and needs emergency surgery in Halifax under a 24 hour care, because now he is aspirating and they are worried it will go into his lungs too… we were quoted up to $10 000 for the surgery and if we do not have the funds, only other option is to put him down.

Update from Jason and Sammie: Achilles made it out of surgery, we were told everything went perfect!! Thank god!! he’s still asleep and must be monitored closely overnight but they will let us know in the morning how his night goes and when we can visit. The worst wait of my life is over, hopefully on the mend now
