Emergency Surgery For Our Husky Navi
Donation protected
Everyone that know us, knows just how much we love out pups Navi and Roe. Unfortunately, our husky Navi was attacked by another dog at the local dog park this week and now needs emergency surgery.
On Thursday afternoon (1/7) at the Dog Park in Country Park, GSO - after just entering the off-leash park as we do most afternoons - a tan boxer/pit/GSD mix started to aggressively try to hump Navi and trapped him between the water fountain and the gate. It resulted in myself and another owner having to pull the dogs off one another as Navi could not get himself unpinned by the other dog. Navi did try to defend himself, but was bit twice once on the ear and once on his neck. The other dog was unharmed.
Navi was starting to bleed pretty badly and in hindsight I should have continued to hold him but realize now I was in shock - my though had been that I did not want to make his wounds worse by pulling him by his collar. So I let him sit where he was while I walked over to where I dropped his leash. I dis say to the other owner that he was bleeding.
While I was getting Navi's leash, the other dog owner proceeded to leash up her dogs, the one that attacked Navi and the other a black pit/boxer mix that was hers as well as she then proceeded to exit the park. Instead of walking to the far gate, away from where Navi was sitting, she proceeded to walk past Navi with both dogs. In all honesty, I turned around I do not know who attacked who the second time I admit - but I ran to Navi and called him away. The other dog owner did not pull her dog away as I ran to him, though she her dog on a secured leash at this time.
The second tussle resulted in a bite on Navi's side. The other dog again was unharmed. I was able to pull them off one another once again. This time I held onto Navi and was able to clip him to his leash. I will admit was not very calm speaking to the other owner at this point but my dog was bleeding and her's was fine. She said that sometimes "dogs just don't like one another and these thing happen" and although I agree - these instances do not usually result in this severity and the first altercation that started this was completely unprovoked by Navi.
I asked for her information and she said if I could not agree it was a mutual accident, she would not give it to me. I did not respond with grace and for that I am more sorry than I should be, but Navi was bleeding and I was understandably upset. The owner said then that she would leave and not provide me any of her information and that was it. Even regardless of blame, she left without any information, care, or empathy about the wellbeing of another's dog that her dog had an altercation with.
When we brought Navi home and cleaned him up, we checked the bites and thought he may be alright with some antibacterial and homemade bandages but this morning Navi was lethargic and kept whimpered as he woke up.
He seemed in a lot of pain and so we rushed him to the Vet ER this morning (1/8). The vet informed us that the punctures of the bites were deeper than we thought and would need to have drains put in so that they will heal correctly. In order to do this he would need to undergo surgery immediately.
Navi has NEVER been in an altercation with another dog . We frequent the dog park almost daily and a local dog park pub every weekend where he is around a ton of other kinds of dogs without problem. Everyone who knows him, know he is the first one to fall at your feet for a belly rub and we get complimented about how well behaved he is all the time. If a group of dogs starts to get rambunctious, we look up and he has trotted away and becomes glued to our side - not wanting to be a part of any of the crazy.
During this rough start to the new year and not being able to contact the other owner, we are hoping for help to cover the costs of this surgery. Anything you can give, we would be extremely thankful for and would go directly covering this unanticipated cost. We can not begin to tell you how much it means to us and our little family. <3
