Emergency Support for Plum

This fundraiser is to help support our close queer friend in Indonesia who is recently homeless because their family locked them in their room and threatened to subject them to conversion therapy. Plum is a bright and kind student who is pursuing their education and career in the arts. Your support will ensure that they are able to find housing, a job, and start school. Here is their personal story:

"Hi, My name is plum, im 20 and I have become homeless due to covid-19 and run away from being locked up at home after coming out as gay. I just finished my study in Japan on april 2020 and came back to Yogyakarta, Indonesia on July, but it seems like my sister didnt like the way I look and she told my parent about it (my parent lives in different city called Makassar). then my mom phoned me and angry about it and ask me to go back to Makassar, I was scared so I decided to run away from Yogyakarta to a city called Bandung. after I got into Bandung, I decided to come out as gay to my mom with expectation of being accepted in family. I thought it went well at first, but it wasnt. somehow my parent find out that I ran away to Bandung and come to the city from makassar to bring me back. they got me, and I couldnt do anything, they took my phone, and I had been locked up at home and cannot even communicate to my close friends. also I have a lot of mental breakdown because they thought it is disease and they called priest to do an exorcist to me to let go the demons out of me. I was really scared and depressed so I ran away with just bringing my ID. Now I live far away from friends and without cellphone, I go to Internet cafe to contact my friends, and been living on a street since the day I ran away (25th september 2020). I was looking a shelter for lgbtq and found one in Bali but they were unable to help. Im trying to go back to Yogyakarta and find a safe place to live and find work. Also I hope I could get into art institute next year for undergraduate study. any amount you can donate would be life-saving, so I can find a secure place to stay."

Per GoFundMe protocol and for your own reassurance, we are disclosing the following information:

1. Haewon Lee and I, as organizers of this campaign, are friends of Plum.
2. Though the funds are deposited in my own US bank account account, I will be transferring them to Plum daily via PayPal once it is confirmed that they have received the initial donations. We are unable to add Plum as an official beneficiary since GoFundMe's does not service Indonesian bank accounts.
3. As mentioned in (2), I will transfer funds from new donations (since last transfer) daily once they have confirmed that their initial transfers have been confirmed. If requested, I will provide data on these PayPal transfers. I will also be covering PayPal transfer fees out of my own pocket.
