Emergency Relief Shelter for Horses

Olympic Peninsula Equine Network, OPEN is a busy non profit horse shelter in Sequim Washington. We are working with our County Officials to become a disaster relief shelter for large animals in our region.

During the recent fires and hurricanes many animals were separated from their owners and most of the effected counties had no facilities available to keep them. In some cases horses were sent to auction houses and sold because the local officials had no resources or capacity to care for them.

But with your help we hope to create a facility that can transform in matter of hours to become an emergency shelter, able to care for an additional 10 to 20 displaced horses in the case of fire, flood, earthquake or other large scale disaster situations. We hope to give the animals a safe haven and time for their owners to be located.

With this money, we plan to buy 50 corral panels that can be used at the rescue as our standard large paddocks, training pen and arena but which can also transform into many smaller temporary paddocks. We need to have emergency shelter covers on hand that can be set up to protect the animals from the elements and to build an enclosed office building for supplies and horse equipment.
