URGENT HELP NEEDED TO AVOID HUMANITARIAN CATASTROPHE
An unprecedented locust invasion has brought the most devastating plague upon the people of the Wallo Region in East Africa, who have been suffering in a hostile political and physical environment for a long time. The predominantly farming population of this region have lost their entire farm products and are exposed to extreme famine and distress. According to the reports from the sources on the ground, 7 districts are affected by the locus, some districts suffered a total loss of crops while others averaged 50% to 75% crop loss. This has created an emergency requiring immediate action to save lives. This tragedy is compounded with the historical marginalization of generations of the people of this region cut off from all opportunities and making them unable to mitigate this tremendous loss on their own. The people of this region have been experiencing various calamities already and cannot survive this crisis if left alone. Therefore, we appeal to everyone for your donations to save lives and avoid the impending humanitarian catastrophe.
This fundraising is organized by the Alliance of Oromo Civic Organizations (Alliance of Oromo Civic Organizations has been organized to coordinate the charitable and civic activities of Oromo non-profit and community organizations. Some of the major non-profit organizations which are part of this alliance are; Sikkoo-Mandoo, Wabii Maccaa Association, Shanan Gibee, Odaa Nabee, United Hararghe Civic Organizations, Burqaa Shawaa, and representatives from Gujii, Borana, and Wallo.)
