Emergency Medical Bills for Art Reid

Family Asking for Assistance to Pay for Emergency Medical Bills for Art Reid

Art Reid, is a man of noble character – well respected by those that know him, loved and cherished by his children, family and friends.  In 1977 Art moved his family to Canada to provide a better life. After retiring from Alcan in Kitimat BC, Art felt called to return to Jamaica, the land of his birth, to care for the less fortunate and needy.

He, along with his late wife Jennifer, founded and ran the Candle in the Dark Soup Kitchen project, an NGO funded by private donations, support and often out of their own pockets during the start-up years. The project has been providing food, clothing, and physical and mental health support for the poor and destitute in Mandeville, Jamaica for over 20 years.  Because of declining health, Art has passed on the daily running of the organization to others and his legacy remains as the project continues to thrive and serve the less fortunate.

Through no fault of his own, his own private medical insurance, a part of his private pension benefits, was discontinued abruptlymany years ago. At that time, Art, now advanced in age and with pre-existing medical conditions, was ineligible to obtain private medical insurance in Jamaica. His 4 daughters, Shauna, Heather, Jennifer and Stephanie live in Canada and had plans to bring him home to be cared for by his family where he would have access to medical care, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic and concerns for travel safety, the plans were put on hold.

On February 23, 2021 – Art suffered a stroke and was rushed to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. During the surgery there were complications resulting in him being admitted to the ICU where he remains critically ill. With nomedical insurance, the bills for surgery and hospital stay are steadily mounting daily and the family does not have the ability to cover these costs.

We humbly ask for any financial contribution that you can make towards the medical bills for this wonderful man who is now in the position of needing medical help himself.

We are aware that many people are not in a position to make a financial contribution during these challenging times, and we would gladly welcome and appreciate your prayers.

Thank you for any consideration.
