I am updating this main "story" section to reduce confusion and inquiry into Chad's health status. Please check the "updates" tab for details.
Chad passed away in the early hours of 10/17/18, less than 12 hours after his arrival in San Diego. His mother and I was by his side. It was a dignified death and we were reassured that he would not feel anything. They had him wrapped in a cocoon of blankets, as though he was just warding off a chill.
We were informed of several other health conditions (from broken ribs to brain bleeds) that we were unaware of in Mexico. It has been an extended process to have him reviewed by the medical examiner and it will be at least another week before we can receive his remains. We have requested a copy of the medical report, but it may take up to 9 months to receive.
Current cost totals are approximately $72,200, less the bill from the hospital in San Diego which we haven't received yet. Claims and compensation is being explored through L&I (worker's compensation) and Carnival Cruise. However, I am not completely clear on what may or may not be covered and reimbursements have not been made yet.

Updated note: PLEASE check the "updates" section for updates about Chad's medical condition as well as my comments regarding his treatment at Velmar Hospital. Please also keep in mind that the public has restricted access to information and that updates can be scattered as we receive information and have brief moments to update this page.
My brother, Chad, was involved in an ATV wreck during a company cruise in Mexico. The ATV rolled over him multiple times, resulting in a collapsed lung, punctured liver, and internal bleeding. Due to the severity of the damage, his kidneys and other internal organs are beginning to shut down. He is currently on life support and in an induced coma. He has two work companions that have stayed behind to communicate updates to our family, but getting detailed information has been difficult due to the language barrier.
I am still in the process of estimating costs, locating insurance policies, and contacting the cruise company to assist in legal and financial accountability as well as getting him safely back to the United States. I will update the Gofundme cost estimation as I receive more information. Currently, I am actively trying to gather funds for an emergency visa and emergency transportation of my mother to provide next-of-kin services and myself as support and logistical assistance during this strenous time.
