EMERGENCY LEBANON RESCUE MISSION

Tax deductible
On June 28th 2022, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced some terrible news. They have decided to implement a new measure to "protect Canadians and their pets” by reducing the risk of introducing dog rabies into Canada. As of September 28th, 2022 on “World Rabies Day” “commercial" dogs from countries of “high risk” for dog rabies will no longer be permitted entry into Canada, this includes rescues bringing in dogs for adoption.

This news is completely absurd and heart wrenching. Rabies is a PREVENTABLE disease and ALL dogs entering Canada MUST have a rabies certificate. Canada currently has ZERO cases of rabies in dogs. We have personally had a conversation with the CFIA to enforce more restrictions and have stricter regulations for dogs entering Canada last year, the agents replies were “it would be too much work”. To put a ban all together has basically given thousands and thousands of innocent dogs that have lived horrendous lives the death sentence. These dogs will have close to zero chances of survival. What is even worse, there is no basis in facts or data about these “high risk countries". It is 100% an effort to restrict the amount of work CFIA is required to do. The USA implied this measure a year ago and Canada has decided to follow. It’s another blanket policy based on ignorance and now, we all have to pay for it.

So here we are, feeling completed defeated and saddened for all the dogs that will no longer have a chance at a second chance at a good life. We don’t know how our partners whose shelter will soon fill up and having limited options on where to send the dogs to be adopted as Lebanon’s adoption rate is close to 0%. Lebanon still seems to hit rock bottom as a country and it’s heartbreaking. Though the first animal welfare bill was passed in 2017, which made it illegal to subject any animal brutality, the abuse in Lebanon is still unbridled and completely out of control. There is so much hatred, anger and violence towards the innocent beings. Daily, dogs get shot, hit and/or run over by vehicles, some are tied and dragged for miles alive behind cars and motorcycles, they are poisoned, beaten, stabbed and so much more for pure entertainment. A large amount of these dogs were once people’s pets until they no longer wanted them and dumped them to fend for themselves, which most don’t know how to do do. A high number of these animals die of a slow painful death. It’s very disturbing.

This call for help is simple, we need to get dogs out ASAP. We are working tirelessly to bring back as many dogs as we can from BETA Lebanon before the ban. These dogs and the team at BETA need our help and we need YOURS.

Our goal is to bring 25 dogs from Lebanon to Montreal.
We don’t have the funds to book anything at the moment, the faster we raise the faster we can book flights. The amount that we will raise will depend on how many we can fly over to give them a second chance at life.

The flight prices have increased along with everything else. Each dog will cost us about $1500+ from flying to vetting to everything in between.

We know it’s a lot of money but we also know we CAN do this all together because we have the raddest community. A community built on kindness, compassion and love. RAD is love and love knows no boundaries.

Lets bring these babies home! Please donate today and share if you can. ANY amount helps. A tax receipt will be given for all donations.

Thank you for opening your generous hearts and helping our furry companions find their way to a better life.

Sincerely,

Team RAD
