Emergency Housing for Mary
Donation protected
In Accra, Ghana, at the end of 2019, my dear friend Mary lost her home to severe flooding. This is nothing new to her, her family, or the communities within the capital, where flood-prone areas offer some of the only affordable housing. Though they have cleaned up the worst effects of the flood, Mary and her mother are hoping to secure another home in a safer place with higher ground.
Rent custom in the city often asks for renters to pay for a 3-year lease, up front. The place they are looking for now requires a $10,800 GHC (~$2,000 USD) deposit. They have already put their entire savings toward this amount, and are still short about $8,000 GHC ($1400). It is my hope right now to raise that difference, with room for them to maintain their savings for future shocks; hence, $2,000 dollars.
I have been supporting Mary in the small way I am able since I met her in 2012, and this is a challenge that I cannot meet on my own. Anything you can contribute would mean so much to me, and even more to Mary and her family.
Thank you!
