Emergency Hotel for Ben

Donation protected
(updated below) This past February, Ben's basement apartment flooded after a heavy rain. Trying to get the insurance company to send out plumbers, contractors, and inspectors has been a nightmare - it has been almost two months and they still haven't fixed everything.  The problem is even more serious now that they have found black mold growing in the basement, partly because of the flood, and partly because they didn't solve the problem in time. The insurance company and inspectors have stated several times that it is not safe to be staying down there. This is where you come in - the insurance company told us they would pay for a hotel for Ben, only to have them go back on that and say we would have to pay for it out-of-pocket. Because of Ben's disabilities, it is extremely difficult to find any place we can afford where he can stay for the 2-3 weeks it will take to clean his apartment. The hotel needs to have a walk-in shower, grab bars in the bathroom, a place where the staff can stay without disturbing his sleep (this means a suite, most likely), and some kitchen accommodations. Needless to say, it is a very expense prospect. While it may seem like vacation to some to be able to stay in a hotel for a couple of weeks, for Ben, it will be extremely stressful and anxiety inducing. Ben does not do well with change - he doesn't understand what is happening or why. Because of his unique needs, there are almost no options for him other than an expensive hotel suite: there are no AirBnB options that are accessible nearby (which is essential, since the staff will have to travel to this new location to take care of him), respite care options are not viable because that means new staff would be taking care of him (people that do not know Ben and who Ben doesn't know), and staying with someone else (friend or family) brings us back to the problems of accessibility (shower, bathroom, stairs, etc.).  The best option to get Ben out of his apartment so they can clean the mold, clean his furniture, and put in new flooring, is to get him into a hotel that will be able to accommodate his needs immediately. The time estimate to complete this work is 2-3 weeks. We found a room at a nearby hotel that meets all the requirements. The rate is $195 per night. The quote from the hotel for 3 weeks is $4,815.58. While we will be able to cook food and bring it over for most meals, there will be times where we will need to go buy food, which is why I've rounded up the total cost to $5000. The sooner we can get the funds to do this the sooner they can begin the cleanup.  UPDATE: the insurance company has now informed us that there aren't enough funds to cover the cost of the cleanup. Any additional funds we raise will go towards the final cost for mold cleanup beyond what the insurance covers.
