Emergency Funds for Black Queer Migrant

Donation protected
Hello everyone, I'm organizing this fundraiser on behalf of someone dear to me that wishes to remain anonymous for safety and privacy. I am going to make this real clear and concise, so here goes:

X has been in Canada for 7yrs on a temporary work visa and is currently fighting to stay in the country. They’ve completed both an undergrad and master’s degree while in Canada, and unfortunately lost their job earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They have been working independently and tirelessly on their art sales to survive, which unfortunately hasn’t been enough. Bills are piling up and they are currently trying to seek asylum in Canada, as a deportation could potentially be a death sentence, because being queer is illegal in their home country.

These are emergency funds being collected to pay for ongoing costly legal aid, and costs of living. While waiting to obtain status/permanent residency, they are unable to work and have very little access to social supports, which is why I am calling on you for help.

The act of applying for asylum based on sexual orientation and gender identity can leave one even more exposed to violence -- This is a life saving fundraiser, to put it bluntly. They have given so much to our community, and it’s time we give back.

Any amount is sincerely appreciated, as we understand these are challenging times.

Thank you so, so much.
