Emergency Fund: Supporting Amalia while abroad
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Andrea and I am setting up this page to get support from the community to help my grandmother Amalia (74). While in the Dominican Republic for vacation, my grandma fell while getting out of the shower, due to this accident she ended up breaking her upper femur/ hip. She was then transferred to a hospital where she had to endure surgery to fix the fracture leaving her with 3 screws in her hip. It is still unclear how much longer she will have to remain there to receive the medical care she needs. She cannot walk for 4-6 weeks post-op and will need to go through physical therapy to get full mobility back. Since we do not reside in the Dominican Republic, all medical expenses have to come out of pocket and we are not sure what other expenses we will have to cover to get her as well as my parents out of the Dominican Republic and back to Colombia where she lives as soon as she is released from the hospital. The hotel is not taking any responsibility for the incident and therefore we are left with a substantial amount of expenses to cover.
As her family, we ask that you please donate to help Amalia as she tries to navigate this painful situation. These donations will go directly to any medical bills, payments that are necessary to also transport her back to Colombia, costs of the physical therapy, and legal action against the hotel due to the incident. We ask that everyone keep her in your thoughts and prayers and remain hopeful for a full recovery for Amalia where she can return home to be with her family and friends.
