Help Winston Walk Again

Donation protected
On September 14th, Winston suddenly lost the use of his back legs. I rushed him to the emergency vet hospital where they did an X-ray to find what looked like a slipped disc in his spine. They recommended surgery, and there I was staring at an $8,000 hospital bill on what was supposed to be a pretty low key Friday night watching movies with my pup.

The surgeon looked at the x-ray before surgery, and decided that it likely wasn't a slipped disc after all. Since then, it's been a series of vets and tests, with no one being able to pinpoint what happened to the little fluff muffin. While the expensive surgery was no longer on the bill, all of the tests, medications, and overnight stays started piling up. Now we are looking at needing physical therapy in the next few weeks.

If you know me and Winston, you know that he’s so much more than a dog to me. He’s been there by my side, and never left me alone when I needed him the most. I take him everywhere dogs are allowed, and he never wants me to be outside of his line of sight. I’ve gotten used to having him as my shadow, and you guys have too. Leaving him overnight in a hospital cage, attached to an IV, and hearing him cry for me as I left the room was one of the worst feelings in the world.

I know how many hearts Winston has stolen in the 3 years since I brought him into my home. I never knew that I could feel this for a dog, and I’ve seen so many of you fall in love with him too. He's only 5 years old, and he's totally happy and healthy except for whatever sudden thing this is... so giving up isn't an option. It just isn't.

And if you can’t donate, or don’t want to, that is 1000% ok. Just send him every good thought that you have for a quick recovery. At the end of the day, your friendship and the fact that you took time to read this is the absolute most important thing in my heart. Love you all so much. Thank you for being in my life.

xoxo
Karen & Winston

Status (as of 9/20): Winston is back home with me, and we are adjusting to a new way of life together. The doctors are treating him for inflammation and hoping that steroids will help him to heal. The good news is that he can pee on his own now, and I don't have to learn how to expel his bladder (phew!) Physical therapy starts in a couple of weeks, and I'm hoping and praying that he regains his mobility.

(Here he is waiting for the neurologist Monday morning. He’s such a trooper)
