Emergency feline dental surgery for Blixa

Asking for help is something that is extraordinarily difficult and scary for me. I take a lot of pride in being independent and paving my own way in life. If you know me well, you have likely experienced my stubborn unwillingness to accept or ask for help.

That being said, a trip to the vet today revealed that my beloved feline companion, Blixa has some health issues that require immediate attention. During Blixa’s veterinary exam, we discovered he has a heart murmur and dental disease. He requires immediate emergency dental surgery, as this is quite painful for him and affecting his quality of life and ability to eat. If left untreated, this can lead to more serious health complications that are difficult to treat and potentially fatal.

After discussing my discomfort and reluctance to ask for any sort monetary assistance with a close friend, especially during a time when so many of us have been hit hard by the pandemic and are struggling financially, she reminded me that this is for Blixa, not for me, it is ok to ask for help and suggested I set up this page.

Blixa has been my ride or die for the past 11 years. If you have been fortunate enough to meet him, you know he is one of the sweetest, gentle and good natured critters who wants nothing more than to love and be loved. He loves playing fetch, forehead kisses, meowing incessantly to the musical stylings of Thom Yorke and shamelessly flopping on his back for tummy rubs. He is much more than a pet, he has been by my side and comforted me through some of my darkest days. I can’t bear the thought of him being in pain or anything bad happening.

For the sake of transparency, his medical expenses are as follows

• $200 - geriatric blood panel
• $260 - dental prophy feline
•$395.50 - dental anaesthesia bundle
• $454.08 - dental extraction
• $233.70 - dental anaesthesia maintenance and monitoring fee
• $77.39 - dental nerve block
• $29.50 - metacam inj 0.5% per ml
• $ 19.38 - meloxicam susp 1.5mg/ml 180 per
ml
• $42.81 - clinacin tabs (clindamycin) 75mg per tab
• $19.80 - gabapentin
• + taxes

These costs are a rough estimate with the potential to increase depending on the number of extractions necessary. I know this year has hit most of us pretty hard and not many of us are in a position where we have expendable income. If you are in a position to help, even if it’s only $1, myself and Mister Blixa would be eternally grateful.

If you would prefer to send an e-transfer to minimize the percentage this platform takes, please contact me for an e-mail address where funds can be received. ( Gofundme won’t let me include my e-mail for privacy reasons)

If you would be more comfortable adding a credit to his account with the vet directly, you can do so at:
Oaklands Veterinary Hospital, Victoria BC
250-590-4455. Name on account should be under Blixa and Hannah.

Please notify me if you have added credit to his account so I can adjust the goal on this platform accordingly. I’m not interested in raising more than I need.

Thank you so much if you have made it this far!

Love,

- Hannah and Blixa
