Thank you for assisting us in surpassing our goal of $500! Please scroll further for updates.

On Sunday, April 21st 2019, hundreds and thousands of Sri Lankan Christians and Catholics came together to celebrate the life of Christ on Easter Sunday. However the events that unfolded from an important religious occasion were anything but a celebration.

The bombings were the deadliest violence in the country since the end of its civil war in 2009.

The wave of bombings began around 8:45 a.m., and targeted Roman Catholic houses of worship — St. Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo, the capital; St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo; and Zion Church in Batticaloa — along with the luxury hotels the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand, and the Kingsbury, all in Colombo.

The death toll as of right now (April 21st) : At least 207 people were killed and 450 others injured.
Update as of April 22nd : 290 deceased.

For folks who don't know me, I'm Isuri Wijesundara - a Sri Lankan currently based in New York, who's family and entire life is back in Sri Lanka, much like a majority of us around the world. Myself along with many other Lankans who are widely spread around the globe feel the pain that our nation is currently enduring. This was in fact an attack on humanity and an attack on our nation. We are one nation that stands tall. Through crises of nature and nurture have prevailed. As Lankans who are unable to assist our brothers and sisters in our motherland, I wanted to set this up so funds can be used to help the families who've lost their loved ones and help with reconciliation. Institutions and places of worship can be rebuilt, but lost lives can't. Even if it means helping elevate a funeral to celebrate not mourn a life. If you wish to personally contact me, folks have done so via social media and you can reach me via email at [E-Mail ausgeblendet]

I'm trying to raise $500 which equates to 87250.00 Sri Lankan rupees.
We've surpassed the goal!
The current currency exchange rate is $1 = 174.64 Sri Lankan rupees.

Please know that this fund is solely personal and is monitored by me and a dear friend. Tehani Tissera is currently in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Also know that at this time, Tehani, myself and my parents are closely monitoring the funds and will be used in the following ways :
* Education for orphaned children.
* Possible funeral arrangements.
* Medical assistance - prosthetics etc.

The money will not be wasted in any way and will be used in the most efficient ways possible to assist the people of the nation. It will not be sent to any organizations as we strongly believe in human interaction and emotional reconciliation. For the amazing global citizens who have already donated, my appreciation is limitless and you will receive notes from me!

If you can find it in your heart to donate a few dollars to this emergency fund, on behalf of all Lankans, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
