Embracing Our Fury


My name is Julia Speer and I create women's workshops and retreats around the practice of radical self-love. I have been doing this since 2007.

Ultimately, all my work is about the relationship we have with ourselves, because that relationship drives every other relationship we have. Knowing who you are and showing up as nothing less than that is infinitely better than the alternative. 

I am an advocate for radical self-love, specifically for women. This campaign is to raise scholarship money for a very special women’s self-care weekend.

This weekend, Embracing Our Fury, is August 2-5, 2019 at Bend of Ivy Lodge  just outside Asheville, NC. That may sound like a curious title, but if you watch the video above, it will make sense. It might even get you exploring your own internal messages. I hope so. Curiosity did not (contrary to popular belief) "kill the cat". Curiosity creates critical thinkers, and that's a good thing.

The $1,500 raised will be divided into five $300 scholarships for women to help them attend the retreat weekend. Any amount raised over that can help with travel expenses. Often, the women who need these weekends the most are those who cannot afford it. Your contribution makes it happen. Perhaps it is a woman you know who wants to attend, or maybe you believe in the cause because you love women and "get it". Maybe you know me and want to support my work. Whatever the reason, you can make a profound difference in a woman's life.

The total cost of registration is $648 per person. Yes, that is a lot of money, and because it is a lot of money, I have done my research for you (see link below). Being a public school art teacher for 20 years, I certainly understand being on a tight budget. I changed the individual scholarship from $200 to $300 after a generous donation combined with private messages from women saying it is the cost that keeps them from being able to attend. Having a $300 scholarship to put towards that $648 registration can help a woman in a big way. Usually, the group is small and intimate, about 7-10 women. This works best for deep discussion. We have the whole facility to ourselves. I save some money by doing all the food myself. I cut costs by creating the workbooks myself and have them printed at Kinkos. I also lead the creative art expression. Art supplies are very expensive, but my years as a public school teacher have helped me find the best deals.
