The Annual William James & Rosa Lee Little Foundation's Embracing Families For The Thanksgiving Holiday initiative involves "Embracing Family" as a communal act of love.

WE WILL BE ACCEPTING DONATIONS FROM OCTOBER 12, 2020 - NOVEMBER 22, 2020

We believe that assistance through Embracing Families who truly needs your support this holiday season will go a long way to spread the spirit of gratitude throughout our communities.

This Thanksgiving Holiday project through our partnerships with you and to the William M. Boyd Elementary School, and Frederick Douglass High School of the APS - Atlanta Public School System, by embracing homeless and/or single parent families to ensure that they have assistance with their Thanksgiving Holiday Dinner.

Research shows that, on average, families need an income of about twice  that level to cover basic expenses. Using this standard, 43% of children  live in low-income families.

Most of these children have parents who work, but low wages and unstable employment leave their families struggling to make ends meet. Poverty can impede children’s ability to learn and contribute to social, emotional, and behavioral problems.

A single parent with two children typically needs to  earn $18.36 an hour full-time—or about $38,000 a year—to provide for the family's basic needs. Yet the highest state minimum wage is $10.50 an hour, and the federal minimum wage is only $7.25.    Washington D.C. has the highest minimum wage at $14.00 per hour while California, Massachusetts, and Washington have the highest minimum wage at $12.00 per hour. Georgia's minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.

Single parent families living at or below the federal poverty level do not earn enough to provide for their families. Every year, the American Farm Bureau Federation rounds up the average cost of a Thanksgiving Dinner for a family of 10 is $49.12.

A meaningful way to build with us as we grow to support our community at The William James & Rosa Lee Little Foundation as we Embrace homeless and/or single parent families this Thanksgiving is through a holiday gift donation of $5, $10, $25, $50, or even whatever you are able to bless us with.  Any donation given will go toward helping us Embrace Families whose children attend the William M. Boyd Elementary School and Frederick Douglass High School.

THIS IS NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART!

After suffering from my own financial setbacks as a single parent, I found herself in need of financial assistance within several areas which eventually led to homelessness for my daughter and I. As I struggled to provide her with the best possible opportunities for her educational future, this became increasingly difficult.  My pursuits had a common underlying theme, a disproportion in income and the growing needs of her family. I earned too much money to qualify for assistance from most organizations and not enough money to support and provide the type of educational opportunities which would better for my daughter's success.

I have survived homelessness, domestic violence, an out of state custody battle, as well as the reclaiming of my own 'Deferred Dreams,' and it has taken years of strong determination, faith, unwavering commitment, immeasurable grace from God and many blessings and having been re-positioned to this point in my walk.

I have first hand and in-depth knowledge of the struggles that homeless single-parents have. This is at the heart of my desire to help other homeless and/or single parent families  with income disparities with that extra aid necessary to keep them from falling through the cracks. Your partnership with us will afford this opportunity for them again this year.

I have a passionate, reignited-enthusiasm to serve which comes from a place of familiarity, the foundation my parents provided. The gems of wisdom they left throughout the community march across my memory, fueling my desire to be the best reflection of the heart of a servant leader, just as my parents provided through the examples of how they led their lives.

But I need your help!

Let’s partner and make a big #impact #together during #thanksgiving and provide #thanksgivingdinner this year #2020
