I AM STRONG. I AM BRAVE. I AM EMBERLYN.
On September 1, 2018, 2-year-old Emberlyn, daughter of Taryn & Robert, was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma, which is a rare and very aggressive pediatric cancer. Emberlyn has already gone through 12 surgeries, many blood transfusion, platelet transfusions, numerous scans and many other difficult things that no 2-year-old should have to go through. She is currently getting a stem cell transplant and will be in the hospital for at least a month or more. During this treatment, her skin has burned and peeled from harsh chemo, she has mucositis which is a painful inflammation and ulceration of her mucous membranes lining the digestive tract. She has not wanted to eat or speak because of this. She has a feeding tube and is on multiple medications to help protect her organs, help with her nauseous and pain and build her immune system back up. All of this will help her fight this ugly, aggressive, monster, but it is only the beginning. Emberlyn has at least another year of very harsh and difficult treatment, including another stem cell transplant.
All this life-saving treatment has come at a large price. The family is facing enormous medical bills, in addition, the cost of the many trips back and forth to the hospital (which is 50 miles, one way, from their home), gas, parking, food, and the list goes on.
Emberlyn has 3 older sisters and an older brother, so as you can imagine it has taken a village to take care of Emberlyn and keep things running as normal as possible for the rest of the family. The financial help to pay for medical expenses will ease the burden on this family and keep their “village” protected (as much as possible) from the ugly evil that cancer has caused, not only on Emberlyn but her entire family.
