Amanda battles an aggressive case of Rheumatoid Arthritis that has attacked over 80% of her joints, including her chest, jaw, and even her lungs (requiring lung surgery in 2016).  She also battles endometriosis, fibroids, and a thyroid disorder.

My courageous wife endures more pain than anyone I've ever known (and I've known a lot of sick & hurting people, as a pastor)!  You can see 8 of her fingers are increasingly becoming crooked.  We're in a race against the clock to prevent further permanent deformity & loss of function in her hands & fingers.  Through it all, Amanda maintains a smile & sincere faith in our Lord Jesus!

In Brazilian culture, the wedding ring is worn on RIGHT hand.  On our wedding day, Amanda's only finger NOT swollen was her ring finger on LEFT hand (perfect for American tradition!).  We saw God in the details here, as he gave us this small, custom gift, in the midst of sickness, on our wedding day.  A few months later swelling meant the ring had to be worn on a necklace.

These days, Amanda is barely able to walk, and the pain is excruciating for her.  She has constant swelling in both knees, as well as in her feet, toes, heels, & ankles.  Amanda is mostly home bound, facing severe chronic fatigue as her body is constantly fighting inflammation.

For most of our first year in marriage, Amanda was bleeding non-stop.  She became severely anemic, and finally, we ended up in the emergency room, receiving two blood transfusions & undergoing surgery to remove fibroids.

We're coming up on our 2 yr anniversary (August 26, 2019).  A lot has happened!  After pestering U.S. Immigration for nearly a year, Amanda was finally granted a travel waiver that would allow her to travel back to Brazil for medical treatment.  It looks like the next chapter in our life will be a brief separation (5-6 weeks) while Amanda and her mom head home to Brazil for much needed medical treatment that is simply not available to us here in the U.S. pending Amanda's visa status change.

For those of you supporting us as we navigate sickness & immigration, we are truly grateful!
